Bhutan paper saved - 2007/03/07 05:10 News release from the Third World Media Network regarding this article on Media Helping Media.

THIRD WORLD MEDIA NETWORK
[Bhutan Chapter]

Dated: March 6, 2007

Press Release

TWMN-Bhutan Chapter, the only organization of Bhutanese journalists affiliated to international media organization, would like to heartily welcome the assurance of WAN to extend financial assistance to The Bhutan Reporter (TBR), the only English bulletin published in refugee camps.

TWMN- Bhutan considers that TBR has already won hearts of its readers in refugee camps and some other areas as well.

The fact that papers like TBR should be continued, as Bhutan’s media situation is controlled by government, cannot be denied. WAN has assured that it would at least help for the next three months and find for other alternatives.

TWMN- Bhutan would like to request WAN and other international media organizations to extend its possible financial aid to TBR continuously as the working team are refugees, who lack income sources.

TWMN-Bhutan believes that if alternatives be sorted out to make alive TBR weekly instead of monthly, it would help advocate Bhutanese refugee stalemate at regional, national and international areas.

We do not like to miss this great opportunity to extend our sincere thanks to Media Helping Media (MHM) for bringing the issue through its esteemed website.

Indeed, had MHM not covered the story then TBR would have stopped without being heard about its financial problem by concerned authorities working for the promotion of media which faces problems.

Teju Chouhan,
General Secretary
TWMN- Bhutan Chapter
Kathmandu, Nepal.
