Bhutan Journalism Award - 2007/03/30 01:27
T.P Mishra, editor of the Bhutan News Service (and a correspondent for Media Helping Media), has won an award for his work for media freedom in the country.
The following news release was posted on the APFA (Association of Press Freedom Activists - Bhutan) website.
Kathmandu, March 29: A meeting of the central committee member of Bhutan Press Union (BPU), on March 26, has nominated T. P. Mishra, editor of Bhutan News Service (BNS) as the winner of ‘Year Journalism Award 2006.’
According to a press release issued by general secretary of BPU, Bhola Puranaghare on Thursday, Mishra also president of the Bhutan Chapter of Third World Media Network is nominated for the award for his valuable contribution at regional, national and international level for Bhutan media freedom. “His advocacy for dignified return of exiled Bhutanese to their original homeland through various media is appreciable”, the release reads.
The BPU will felicitate Mishra along with cash prize and a merit certificate amidst a special function on April 13 at Sanischare camp, coinciding the fifth anniversary of BPU.
Mishra talking to BNS expressed his gratitude to BPU for nominating him as the award winner. “The more responsibilities have come onto my shoulders. Our effort will turn to reality only when there is establishment of complete media freedom in Bhutan”, he said.
Meanwhile, BPU will also felicitate its chief advisor, Kapil Muni Dahal for his deep commitment in media sectors while in Bhutan.
