We are making some changes to the Media Helping Media website. Because of this, some of the features and sections may not work as they used to. Hopefully, the changes will result in a more user-friendly site. We hope the changes won't take long and will mail all registered members once the changes are completed. |

For the second year running, a Chinese journalist has been awarded the Golden Pen of Freedom by the World Association of Newspapers (WAN). However Li Chongqing was unable to receive his award in person at the WAN congress in Sweden after being stopped at Beijing airport and prevented from leaving the country. In a written message, read out to the congress, Li Chongqing, who was jailed for three years for reporting on an outbreak of dengue fever in 2004, said China had now emerged as the world's largest jailer of journalists. The award was presented by George Brock, President of the World Editors Forum, who said that in most countries, Li Chongqing would have been applauded for uncovering the news of the outbreak. |
